Why Nutrition Matters So Much in Perimenopause and Menopause

The hormonal changes that unfold during perimenopause and menopause affect almost every system in the body — metabolism, bone density, cardiovascular health, gut function, sleep quality and mood. What you eat, how you move and how you manage stress can all play a meaningful role in how you experience this transition. A personalised nutrition plan, grounded in your own health history and current symptoms, can help you feel more informed, more in control and better supported as your body changes.

Fleur Dean brings 6 years of clinical experience and her own lived experience with endometriosis and hormonal health to every consultation. She uses a thorough, evidence-informed approach — including functional blood pathology analysis and, where relevant, tools like SMART DNA testing — to build a clear picture of where you are right now. From there, she works with you to develop a realistic nutrition and lifestyle plan that fits your life, your budget and your goals. Consultations are available face to face in Mount Eliza and at Pinnacle Physio in Dromana, or via telehealth for women anywhere in Australia and internationally (excluding the USA).

How it works

What to Expect from a Perimenopause or Menopause Nutrition Consultation

1

Share Your Story

Before your initial consultation, Fleur will ask you to complete a detailed health questionnaire covering your symptoms, health history, diet, lifestyle, sleep, stress and any current medications or supplements. This means your 90-minute appointment is focused entirely on you, rather than starting from scratch. There are no silly questions — the more you share, the more tailored your plan can be.

2

Deep-Dive Consultation

Your initial consultation runs for 90 minutes. Fleur takes the time to listen, ask follow-up questions and look at the full picture — including any existing blood work you have, or flagging whether functional pathology testing could be useful. She may discuss options such as SMART DNA analysis or gut testing depending on your situation. The aim is for you to leave with a genuine understanding of what is happening in your body and why.

3

Your Personalised Plan

Following your consultation, Fleur puts together a personalised treatment protocol tailored to your perimenopause or menopause symptoms and goals. This includes practical nutrition guidance, lifestyle recommendations and, where appropriate, supplement suggestions — always mindful of what is realistic within your budget. Ongoing support is available through return consultations as your needs evolve.

Common Questions About Menopause Nutrition Support

What is the difference between perimenopause and menopause, and does it change the nutrition approach?

Perimenopause is the transitional phase leading up to menopause, during which oestrogen and progesterone levels fluctuate and symptoms such as irregular periods, hot flushes, mood changes and sleep disruption often begin. Menopause is confirmed after 12 consecutive months without a period. The nutritional considerations for each stage do overlap, but they are not identical — for example, supporting hormone fluctuation during perimenopause requires a different focus than supporting the lower, more stable oestrogen levels of post-menopause. Fleur tailors her approach to where you are in this transition, not a one-size-fits-all template.

Can a certified practising nutritionist really help with menopause symptoms?

Nutrition is one piece of a broader picture, and Fleur is careful not to overstate what it can do. What she can offer is a personalised, evidence-informed approach that supports your body during this hormonal shift — looking at areas such as blood sugar balance, gut health, anti-inflammatory eating, bone-supportive nutrients and stress management. Many women find that understanding the connection between what they eat and how they feel is genuinely empowering. Fleur works collaboratively and always encourages clients to stay connected with their GP or specialist as part of their overall care.

How much does a menopause nutrition consultation cost?

An initial 90-minute consultation is $180 and a 60-minute return consultation is $130, whether you see Fleur in Mount Eliza, Dromana or online via telehealth. A free 15-minute discovery call is also available, and Smart DNA testing and functional pathology packages are listed on the Appointments & Pricing page.

Can I do a menopause nutrition consultation online?

Yes. Fleur offers telehealth nutrition consultations for women across Australia and internationally (excluding the USA). Online appointments follow exactly the same process as in-person consultations — you'll complete the same intake questionnaire, have a thorough 90-minute initial appointment and receive a personalised treatment protocol. Many clients find telehealth a convenient and flexible option, particularly if you're balancing work, family or travel.

I'm not sure if what I'm experiencing is perimenopause. Is a consultation still worthwhile?

Absolutely. Many women come to Fleur feeling that something has shifted — their energy is lower, their weight has changed, their sleep is off, or their mood feels different — but they haven't yet had a formal perimenopause or menopause discussion with their doctor. Fleur's functional blood pathology analysis can help build a clearer picture of what might be happening hormonally and nutritionally. She can also help you understand what questions to raise with your GP.

Does Fleur see clients in person on the Mornington Peninsula?

Yes. Fleur sees clients face to face at her Mount Eliza location and at Pinnacle Physio in Dromana. Both locations are accessible for women across the Mornington Peninsula, including those coming from Frankston, Mornington, Rosebud, Rye and surrounding areas. Online consultations are also available for clients further afield.
